Armando Acuna says the Bee has been too conservative with its war images, but "this time I think the paper got it right" when it ran a photo of dead children. Managing editor Joyce Terhaar says: "I understand that some people are upset because it's kids, but it's because they are kids that the photo is important. Because they are kids in a house one minute, and the next minute they are bodies in the back of a pickup truck."
